Can true love be built on lies? A teen on the run seeks relief and redemption in this gripping, “compulsively readable” (School Library Journal) romantic read that Kirkus Reviews calls a “marvelous debut, moving and suspenseful.”
Leah Kurtz has finally found a place to call home, a town where she and baby Addy can live in peace, far from the drug-infested place she grew up. Chris is one of the best parts of her new life, the only person who’s ever made her feel safe. And now that she’s found him, there’s no way she can tell the truth:
Her real name is Faith, not Leah. She’s seventeen, not nineteen. And the baby isn’t hers—Faith kidnapped her.
Faith’s history catches up with her when a cop starts asking questions and Chris’s aunt spots her picture in the newspaper. She knows it’s time to run again, but if Faith leaves, she’ll lose Chris. If Chris is in love with a lie, though, did Faith ever really have him in the first place?

From Booklist
“Insanely complicated” is Faith Leah Kurtz’s conclusion about her life. She’s parenting a baby, whom she kidnapped when she found out that her drugged-out, sinister mother planned to sell the infant, Addy, to a dealer. Fleeing Ohio for Florida, Faith, now called Leah, lands softly into the kindness of a loving family, which has suffered its own private pain. Gradually, Leah and Addy find their way into the family and into the heart of the sweet and gentle son, Chris. While Leah tortures herself, living a lie, Chris continues to plan for their future together, with Grandma and Aunt Ivy’s support and Dad’s skepticism. In Blair’s warm portrayal, Leah’s resilience gives her the strength to confront her past. Will her well-intentioned but illegal, impulsive actions jeopardize her new life? Short chapters match the flow of Leah’s adventures as a teen mom. With a blindingly quick conclusion, readers are left with hope and faith that things will work out while they wait for the inevitable sequel. Grades 8-12. --Gail Bush

A girl struggles to escape her awful life with her abusive, drug-addicted mother, stealing her newborn sister to save the baby from the same fate in this stellar debut.
Sixteen-year old Faith lives with her strung-out mother, who is acting as a surrogate for a drug dealer “friend,” having his baby for $10,000. Faith sees that the baby will be condemned to the same life she has led, so she steals her mom’s car and the baby, whom she names Addy, from the hospital. Calling herself Leah, she flees to Florida, where she rents a room from Chris and his father. Chris immediately adores the baby, and Faith hopes for a romance with him. She seems to have found the perfect life for herself and Addy, but she knows that her constant deception, along with kidnapping and theft charges, eventually will catch up with her. Writing from Faith’s perspective, Blair delivers a wallop of a story. She focuses it on Faith’s difficulties simply feeding and caring for the squalling infant, a learning curve Faith must experience alone. While the novel’s realism may suffer from the idyll Faith finds so suddenly in Florida, the poignancy of her plight and the desperate sincerity of her motives easily overcome any quibbles about plausibility.
Just a marvelous debut, moving and suspenseful. (Fiction. 14 & up) (Kirkus Reviews)
"Just a marvelous debut, moving and suspenseful." (Kirkus, starred review)
"This story is riveting, inspirational, and shines a light on how much better life becomes when one decides to follow her heart. Readers will appreciate the power of positive energy that radiates from the pages." (Susane Colasanti, author of All I Need, So Much Closer, and Keep Holding On )
"Well done, Jamie Blair. You've written a unique, compelling page-turner that managed to break my heart and create a beautiful love story in the process." (Julie Cross, author of Tempest )
In an urgent first-person narrative...Blair crafts persuasive characters who have succumbed to bitterness, like Faith’s mother, as well as those who struggle to overcome hardship and tragedy and live with hope. Which path Faith will follow remains open through the novel’s hauntingly ambiguous end. (Publishers Weekly)

Leap of Faith

My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this one!
We are introduced to Faith aka Leah who lives with her older sister and her mom. Her mom is a not a good mom. She decides she is going to have a baby for another couple (the mom) and Leah just doesn't like the idea of this. The mom just cares about the money. Leah doesn’t think her mom is in the right place mentally to do this.
When her mom has the baby, Leah gets an idea. To run off with the baby. She figures any life is better than what the baby will go through.
Leah takes the baby with pretty much nothing. She has the car but she has no place to live and not very much money. So when she finds a nice man whose renting a room out, she figures she can’t get any luckier. And this man, has a nice son who is only a few years older than Leah. The catch, he thinks the baby is Leah's and that she is older than what she is.
As Leah and Chris get close, she wants to tell him the truth. But she knows she shouldn't.
When things go haywire, Chris is actually pretty understanding.
I don’t want to say much about this one, its one of those contemps that you should read if you like contemps. I thought it was a wonderful debut. Very meaningful and yet very cute!
Things aren't perfect for Leah, that's for sure. Sometimes she seems mature, but other times, she doesn't make the best decisions.
This was a neat debut! I liked it!
Overall: I enjoyed reading it a lot. It was a very fast read for me. I liked Leah, and I really loved Chris. He was such a sweet and caring guy. He wasn't perfect but he was perfect for Leah. I liked this one a lot and I’ll read whatever Blair writes next!
Cover: Like it. Its not very colorful but its still a really cute cover.
What I’d Give It: 4/5 Cupcakes

Deeply moving, romantic, and emotionally driven

This isn't your typical love story, but that doesn't make it any less beautiful. The way Leah and Chris come together will have you swooning and believing that true love can prevail regardless of the odds. Both Leah and Chris come to the plate with their own demons and issues, but they're able to bring the best out of each other. I would highly recommend this book.

Beautifully Written Debut

I agree with what a previous reviewer said - this isn't your typical love story. This book was beautiful and thought-provoking, with a cast of realistic characters who are easy to relate to and love. This was a quick read for me (about 3.5 hours) and it was impossible for me to put it down once I started.
