Gr 4–7—Lincoln Baker, 12, is back. After an otherwise normal day with friends, he realizes that he is being trailed by black cars from Pandora, a top-secret agency. They need Lincoln to once again work with kid spy Benjamin Green. His assignment is to protect the president's daughter, Amy. He soon learns that a man who goes by the name "Dagger" seeks to kill the president while wearing George Washington's Coat, which has gone missing. The pièce de résistance is that the garment makes the wearer invincible. Due to their strong dislike of each other and mutual love of competition, Lincoln and Ben are each determined to solve the mystery first. Along the way, readers meet Amy, an engaging, intelligent, and witty charcter who befriends both sleuths. Lincoln's voice remains clear and consistent; he is sarcastic, quick-witted, and ingenious. Bradley cleverly weaves adventure and history throughout this fast-paced book. A must read for mystery fans, including reluctant readers.—Megan McGinnis, Sachem Public Library, Holbrook, NY
From Booklist
There’s a rat in the White House—a rat who wants to kill the president. Double Vision: Code Name 711, the second installment in Bradley’s planned trilogy, finds 12-year-old secret-agent Linc Baker again working with Pandora, a top-secret government spy agency—this time in Washington, D.C. Fans of Double Vision (2012) will recall that Linc is an accidental agent, a dead ringer for official spy-kid Ben Green, who is a straight arrow and Linc’s nemesis. The junior agents must infiltrate the oldest spy organization in America; recover the coat of George Washington that is thought to make the wearer invincible; and save the president from an assassination attempt. Linc quickly ditches Ben and teams up with First Daughter Amy and junior-agent gadget-master Henry to try and crack the spy code and track down the coat. This is a hilarious caper, featuring plenty of nifty gadgets and gross-out scenes, led by an authentic, smart-mouthed hero that fans of the Alex Rider and 39 Clues series will love. Awesome Adventure!
By This Kid Reviews Books
Linc Baker didn't want to be a spy, he wanted to be just a regular kid. When he was recruited by a top-secret agency, Pandora, he was kind of annoyed. Luckily, he completed the mission, saved the world, blah blah blah, and he was called out of action. Well, he was out of action until now. When a secret agent steps out of a black car and asks for Linc, he knows Pandora is looking for him to go on another mission. To make matters worse, Linc is on the same case as agent Benjamin Green, an agent that looks exactly like Linc but is totally annoying and no friend to Linc. Linc flies out to Washington D.C. to get his mission. Apparently, George Washington's coat makes the wearer invincible and the coat has gone missing. A villain named "Dagger" plans to kill the president while wearing the coat. Linc and Ben need to find it, but they hate each other. They do what any two feuding agents would do. They make it a competition. Linc finds an ally in Amy, the president's daughter. Together Linc and Amy set out to stop Dagger, save the president, and show up Ben.
Code Name 711 is the second book in the Double Vision Trilogy. Double Vision (Published in October 2012). The books do not have to be read in order because I was completely into this story even though I didn't read the first book in the series (although Double Vision is now on my must read list). I really liked this book. Ms. Bradley writes an adventure story that is exciting and interesting and totally appropriate for middle grade readers. I love that it takes place Washington DC and that it involves history a little bit. Linc is an awesome character. He is very realistic and believable as a kid. I like that he has the assignment to guard the First Daughter (Amy) and that they make a good team in trying to defeat Dagger. The idea of two people looking exactly alike (Linc and Ben) and that they hate each other is hysterical. I like the idea of the "Dangerous Doubles" in the book (things in history that have a magical power that had to have a copy made to make it less suspicious). Ms. Bradley has a great writing style and wrote a thrilling spy adventure for kids. I can't wait to read Book 1, and then, I'll wait for Book 3!

Edge-of-your-seat Action

Why I picked it up: The author emailed me and asked if I would be interested in writing a review, and since I love free books and fast-paced fiction, I said yes.
Why I finished it: Bradley's follow-up to Double Vision is even more fast-paced and fun than the first. The novel, set in Washington, D.C., draws on a piece of American History with the focus of the mission on the recovery of a national artifact and the existence of the nation's first spies, the Culper Ring. This time, Linc and Ben are competing to see who can close the case the fastest and the competition between the two works to further develop their characters. Linc is becoming much more of a spy this time around, using what he learned on his last mission and applying it to the second. He's still somewhat sarcastic and a rule-breaker, but what twelve-year-old isn't resistant to authority in one form or another? The 'Bond Girl' this time around is first daughter Amy Griffin, and she seems to match Linc prank for prank, which is probably the reason the two characters click so quickly. It is her knowledge of D.C. and her desire for some sort of life outside the White House that makes her engaging and likable. Like the first book, the story is fast-paced and action packed, keeping the reader turning the pages and salivating for more until the last pages. Bradley had given us a new hero to cheer for that deserves a place next to Charlie Higson's young James Bond and Axel Avian's Colt Shore.

Great spy/mystery romp through Washington, DC
By Bish Denham
This is a great spy/mystery romp through Washington DC with a twelve-year-old hero. In just a few days there is to be a costume ball at the White House and someone has threatened to blow up the President, her daughter and the White house. Linc and First Daughter Amy, dash madly about in an effort to keep the disaster from happening. And they must also find and protect George Washington's famous blue coat, the one that kept him safe from harm during the American Revolution.
I liked catching glimpses of various monuments and important places while the kids tried to figure out their next clue. This is perfect for adventurous middlegraders!
