A science fiction mystery (4.5 stars)
By Alt
Resident Alien is a science fiction mystery. Stranded on Earth and in hiding for the last three years, an alien named Harry, passing himself off as a retired doctor, is drafted by local police to help investigate the death of the town's only physician. He finds the task fascinating, but he's not so happy to be suckered into taking a temporary assignment as the town's doctor -- not happy, that is, until he starts the job and finds out he's enjoying it. When more deaths occur, Harry puts his smarts to good use to puzzle out the pattern. The story takes advantage of the mystery writer's tool, misdirection, to keep the reader (and Harry) guessing about the killer's identity and motivation.

This volume is a promising start to a series. While not a plot point in this volume, the story hints that the military knows Harry crashed on Earth and will come looking for him. In addition to functioning as a lie detector, Harry has the ability to make others believe he looks like a human. That trick works on nearly everyone, but one woman (who happens to be a nurse at the clinic) sees his face as sort of a blur. She seeks advice from her father, a medicine man. Naturally, his advice is sage. This is presumably a plotline that will be developed in future volumes.

The characterization of Harry comes together nicely as the story progresses, while leaving plenty of room for the reader to learn more about Harry in the future. I look forward to doing that.

The art is consistently pleasant. I particularly liked the varied coloring.

I would give Resident Alien 4 1/2 stars if I could.

Resident Alien: Welcome to my bookshelf!
By A. Baugher
Resident Alien is about an alien (Harry) who crash landed to earth and is just trying to go unnoticed in a small town. When the local Doctor is murdered two things happen, Harry's expertise is needed to fill in as the general practitioner and his curiosity is piqued as he attempts to solve the Doc's murder.

But that's only a brief description of the story. Resident Alien has a magic about it that I can't quite describe. The dialog flowed so naturally that it was a joy to read. The writing and art compliment each other so well that they were able to form the kind of story which only comes along once in a blue moon.

If you're looking for something a little different and very special, I recommend Resident Alien.

Resident Alien
By Sean Osullivan
This is an excellent comic.I'm surprised that no one has come up with this premise before.Detectives are almost always portrayed as the odd man out,the loner who doesn't quite fit in,and this takes it to a new level. The mystery itself is a bit simple, but I am looking forward to more,as I feel that now the characters are introduced we can expect deeper story writing. At least I hope so.
