Translation too colloquial

This translation is interesting for comparison to more literal translations, but is too colloquial. Patricius's Latin is in a somewhat higher register. The original Latin is direct, not stilted, not flowery, without anything, as far as I saw, merely for literary effect. But neither does it sound like somebody just speaking off the cuff, as this translation tries to make it seem. Moreover, Patricius quotes Latin scripture continually, in almost every sentence, so much that I, for one, would not know without the quotation marks in the better edition of Duffy. Regrettably even the Duffy translation lacks adequate footnotes on those scriptural allusions.

A unique translation of Patrick's Confession

McCormick has done a fine job of conveying Patrick's thoughts in a very readable manner. It might be too colloquial for some, but I enjoyed it and gave me some new insights into the saints theology and character. I especially appreciated the footnotes.

Really Interesting

To hear from From St Patrick himself how he dealt with everyday life and how he viewed the world around him was inspirational. I am very glad I found it, and I think everyone who is either Irish or of Irish decent should read this.
