About the Author
L. B. Cowman worked as a pioneer missionary with her husband in Japan and China from 1901 to 1917, during which time they helped found the Oriental Missionary Society. When Mr. Cowman's poor health forced the couple to return to the United States, Mrs. Cowman turned her attention to caring for her husband until his death six years later. Out of Mrs. Cowman's experiences and heartbreak came her first book, Streams in the Desert, followed by its companion Springs in the Valley. During the next twenty-five years, Mrs. Cowman inspired several nationwide Scripture distribution campaigns and wrote seven more books. Finally, on Easter Sunday in 1960, at the age of ninety, Mrs. Cowman met face-to-face the God she had served so faithfully for nearly a century.
Jim Reimann has more than five million books in print in twelve languages, including the updated editions of Streams in the Desert and My Utmost for His Highest. He was a former retail executive and past chairman of the Christian Booksellers Association. A Simple Kind of Specialty Bible

The "NIV Streams in the Desert Bible" brings 365 days worth of "Streams in the Desert" devotions alongside the NIV translation Bible text, with the devotions being near the Bible text they refer to. Each devotion reading includes a month and day, giving readers one year's worth of devotional readings. The devotions list a source of where they came from, also. There are footnotes at the bottom of the Bible text pages, giving readers more explanation about what they are reading. The back of this specialty Bible includes a Table of Weights and Measures, Subject Index, and blank "My Journey" pages for notes.
I liked that there is a note in the front of the Bible that explains that the "Streams in the Desert" devotions is not a replacement for the Bible text; and that now people can have the Bible text with them as they read through the "Streams in the Desert" devotions in this specialty Bible. I also liked how the Bible Table of Contents was right after the title page, making it easy for me to find. I read through the Bible books of Joshua, 1 Timothy, and 2 Timothy while reviewing this Bible. I was glad to see that the devotions were located very close to the Bible text they were about, usually on the same page, or one page after it.
This seemed to me like a simple kind of specialty Bible, with not a lot of extra pages outside of the Bible text and devotionals.

Where has this been all my life?

Honestly, I could not believe how beautiful this bible is when I received it. It is sturdy and easy to navigate. While the print was a little small for my poor eyes, a magnifier fixed me up nicely.
The devotionals are perfectly interspersed within, to be relevant to what you are reading in the scripture each day. This means that if you wish, you can combine the devotionals with a daily bible reading simply by reading from one devotional to the next. You will finish the bible in a year and have thought-provoking study, to boot!
Each devotional is designed to give hope and good news to weary readers.
I cannot say enough good about this wonderful book and Bible combo.
