Solving crimes with science is fascinating—until a pretend mystery becomes all too real!
Nancy gets Bess, George, and Ned to help out with a special program for high school students, a “chemystery” camp. They’ll visit a forensics lab, a drug company, and a university to see how science is used to solve crimes. Then they’ll use what they’ve learned to work on a made-up case.
But the mystery begins even before the program starts when the professor who runs it suddenly falls into a coma. Now Nancy’s in charge—of the made-up case and the real one. Strange encounters of the dangerous kind and a list of promising suspects test all her talents of deduction. From the tiniest clue on a carpet to real menace in a quarry, Nancy’s crime lab is bubbling with trouble!

Review
"When most people hear 'large-print book,' they immediately think senior citizen. But large-print editions of popular children's books -- from the powerhouse Harry Potter series to timeless classics like The Adventures of Tom Sawyer -- are now making their way onto the shelves of the Children's Department at the Canton Library. . . . Although large-print editions are targeted to the visually-impaired or dyslexic child, they can also be used by standard-vision readers. So Kershner [Children's librarian at the Canton Public Library] has decided against creating a special section in the Children's Department (as exists in the Adult Department) opting instead to intersperse large-print books on the shelves with the regular print versions of the same titles."

"Thorndike Press has helped me not only find books I want to read, but they also look like regular books. That's important when you're a kid and you can only read Large Print, you want your book to look like all the other books. I'm reading a lot more now that we have found Thorndike Press."

"Everyone loves to read, there's nothing like curling up with a good book. We're a reading family, so when our son was diagnosed with Stargardt's Disease and only able to read Large Print, it was particularly difficult. Books on tape are wonderful but they don't fill the void of actually reading a good story. Large Print books have been around a long time for older people, but to find a good novel for a young person in Large Print began to feel nearly impossible. The books that Thorndike Press publishes have truly made a difference in my son's reading life. He can enjoy current novels as well as some of the classics that he missed reading when it became too difficult with regular print."

The Crime Lab Case

"The Creative Crime Lab Case" is a newer Nancy Drew mystery, meaning it is placed in the twenty-first century (as opposed to cases such as the Mystery of Shadow Ranch). It takes place in River Heights (Nancy Drew's hometown), but more specifically in Westmoor University. The University holds the weeklong event called the Crime Lab, which is a special activity organized by Professor Charles Parris every year. A crime is created, and then specially chose students try and use pre-made clues to solve the mystery. This year Nancy helps Professor Parris create the crime. One night before the official start of the Crime Lab, Professor Parris falls ill, sending him to the hospital where he soon slips into a coma. The rest of the Creative Crime counselors and advisers, vote that Nancy is in charge of the Lab in Professor Parris' place. While trying to help the students solve their pretend mystery, Nancy stumbles upon a mystery of her own. It turns out that the Professor had been receiving threatening messages. The person doing the threatening was also the one who poisoned the Professor. Nancy follows many leads, including Connor, who is the assistant to the Professor in his research. Other suspicious characters surface, such as Alexander Kabrov, an old enemy of the Professor. The mystery unravels and Nancy follows her intuition to find the real culprit. A major clue that leads Nancy to the culprit is finding out that Professor Charles Parris is none other than accused murderer Shep Jackson. This helps Nancy discover that Lia, a camp councilor, is responsible for the Professors poisoning and the person who had been blackmailing him. Lia finally give up the antidote for the poisonous mushroom she administered to the professor. As a result the Crime Lab ends, and the Professor is able to heal. This book is a good mystery that keeps you reading to the end. Any age group would probably enjoy this book. Make sure you check it out!

This book is so good. It has so many twists and turns. Right when you think that you have figured it out it all changes again. This story has kept me on my toes the whole way. I really think that the age limit really has no limit at all. My mom reads my books (I will refrain from revealing her age). I would recommend this book for anyone who likes mysteries.

I read this book in 1 and a half days-but only cuz i couldn't put it down!! This is one of the best books I've ever read!! And it isn't for any age-it could be read by anyone and everyone. I would recommend this to anyone who likes suspicion, mystery, and basically a good read. Not only did I learn lots about solving a mystery, but the story is totally unpredictable. I never would have guessed who commited the crime!!
