SHOCK WAVE

It's as legal to buy as bath salts, but Ivory Wave isn't for human consumption. So when a rash of deaths spreads across the Midwest, Mack Bolan has to find out who's making the lethal concoction—who's killing American teens—and shut them down permanently. But he quickly discovers that it's a powerful crime family behind the narcotic, and the mob considers it a legitimate source of income. Taking the deadly drug supply off the market will be no easy task.

With the White House telling him to back off and Stony Man Farm's hands tied, the Executioner has only one way into the organization—put himself directly in the cross fire of the two hot-blooded Mafia brothers battling for control of the family business.

Sometimes the only way to beat them isto join the war.

A little to close to criminal
By cj oakley
When Mack Bolan took off on his quest to find the origin of Ivory Wave , he stepped on a lot innocent people's toes. Like the ex-hippie who's business he wasted. NOT Normal for Mack.
He would have found a more simple and quiet way to obtain the information. Every step of the way he let the enemy know he was coming for them yet they never caught on! Come on!
At the end Mack put down Dom and Nuncio and was ready to pass Massimo.Again no way! The reading was good but sometimes confusing.

Bath Salts drug war
By David Burrows
This if one of the few Executioner series that I thought was lacking in depth. It is one that has Bolan fighting and killing people who sell Bath Salts legally. He does finally get to the manufacturers who are dealing in illegal drugs, but it seemed totally out of character to me.

Bolan kills Mafia
By Walter E. Kurtz
Mack Bolan goes back to his roots as a super vigilante by fighting the Mafia. I always liked Executioner books in which Bolan is fighting ordinary criminals rather than terrorists of foreign spies because they are more realistic. Of course, "realistic" is a relative term when it comes to Executioner novels. Although Ivory Wave might be more realistic than others in the series, it still is a paper equivalent of those cheesy straight-to-DVD action movies.

The book starts with Bolan fighting Russian gangsters. Shortly after killing them all, he gets a phone call from an old friend. The friend's daughter had taken a drug called "Ivory Wave" and died as a result. Bolan arrives in town and vows to find the source of the drug and shut down its production.

He starts in the classical way by working his way up the food chain. First he beats up local dealers and then gets to work on their suppliers. I was thinking that he will just keep going until he gets to the big boss and kills him, but this is where the story diverges.

Ivory Wave is being manufactured by a Mafia family in Cleveland. We are introduced to the family, which is run by two brothers, Dominic and Nuncio, and Nuncio's two sons. There is a conflict growing between them that eventually leads to war that will pit brother against brother and son against father.

The two stories run parallel before merging.

I was quite happy with this side story because the bad guys get exposure and even character development. If you had read other Executioner books, you will know that the chief bad guy (usually there is only one) is almost always a sociopath who does little beyond sitting in his office all the time and yelling at his underlings (occasionally killing them) and throwing things around in anger. Here, in this book, we see the bad guys interact with each other and live their own lives. Although none of them are sympathetic by any measure, they are all human in their own sick, twisted way.

Eventually Bolan arrives in Cleveland at the same time when the two Mafia brothers decide to go to all out war. Rather than to attack them outright, Bolan demonstrates cleverness and cunning (and ruthlessness) by joining forces with one of them. He gains his boss's trust and manipulates him into attacking his brother in such a way as to cause maximum number of casualties to both sides. This, of course, leads to the big, final shootout.

Although perhaps not one of the very best books in the series, I found it quite enjoyable and I recommend it.
